New Route of the Day (1 November 2021): easyJet between Geneva and Skopje

GVA - SKP

easyJet has added Skopje in North Macedonia to its network for the first time, with the introduction of a 2-weekly service from Geneva. Flights will operate every Monday and Friday, with an additional Thursday service over Christmas and New Year, and then again from 10 February, according to the airline’s on-line booking tool. No other carrier operates this 1,330-kilometre route, though it was previously served by SWISS between April 2015 and October 2016 with a weekly (Saturday) service using Avro RJ100s.

Fourth new post-pandemic destination for easyJet

Skopje becomes the latest airport to be added to easyJet’s network since the pandemic started. Since March 2020 easyJet has also added Bourgas, Milan BGY and Toulon to its network for the first time. A further five airports have seen service reinstated after a considerable gap in operations. These are four airports in the UK (Belfast BHD, East Midlands, Leeds Bradford and Newquay) as well as Sharm El-Sheikh in Egypt, which was last served in W15/16.

What they said

Metin Batak, TAV Macedonia General Manager, said: “As TAV we are truly happy to witness easyJet’s entrance on the Macedonian market, with today’s launch of the new route from Geneva, Switzerland to Skopje, North Macedonia. The Macedonian capital will be connected to the Swiss city three times per week, on Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays, as of today, November 1st, during the whole winter season. The low-cost airline will fly to Skopje International Airport for the first time, and they’ve decided to start now, despite the ongoing global aviation crisis caused by Covid-19 and the fact that many countries still have air travel restrictions. Geneva will be the third destination in Switzerland with an air connection to Skopje International Airport, after Zurich and Basel. We believe that this route has a great potential, and we are eager to see its development in the upcoming period.”

Thomas Haagensen, Northern Europe country director, easyJet, added: “At easyJet we are really happy to launch this new route between Geneva and Skopje. Our crews will be pleased to provide a warm welcome to both Swiss customers flying to meet friends and relatives or seeking for a new destination, and also Skopje inhabitants looking for a direct connection to Geneva.”
