New Route of the Day (31 March 2022): Eurowings between Stockholm ARN and Nice
Eurowings opened its Stockholm ARN base at the start of the summer season and plans to be serving 16 destinations from the Swedish capital by August. Prior to the base launch, it was only operating flights to Stockholm from its bases at Düsseldorf and Hamburg. The start of the summer season saw the addition of six new routes following the launch of Prague services on 4 March. These were to Alicante, Barcelona, Birmingham, Malaga, Nice and Palma de Mallorca. The remaining seven routes to Berlin, Cologne Bonn, Heraklion, Larnaca, Mykonos, Rhodes and Rome FCO are set to start in May and June.
Competition comes from Norwegian and SAS
The 1,920-kilometre Eurowings service between Stockholm and Nice launched on Thursday 31 March, initially operating just weekly. However, Cirium data reveals that frequency is set to climb to 3-weekly by May and remain at that level for the rest of the summer. Competition on the route comes from Norwegian and SAS. The former plans to operate the route with up to 9-weekly flights this summer, while the latter will serve the market daily for much of the summer, increasing to 2-daily in July and August.
In addition to this new Stockholm service, Eurowings also serves the southern French city this summer from Cologne Bonn (daily in August), Düsseldorf (9-weekly), Hamburg (4-weekly) and Stuttgart (4-weekly). With the 3-weekly flights from Sweden, this means that Lufthansa’s low-cost subsidiary will be offering 27-weekly flights to Nice in the peak summer period.
