Themes of the Week

  • Avelo goes big in Wilmington, DE (ILG).
  • United wants to be THE airline between the U.S. and Australia and New Zealand by adding new service and capacity this winter; Bring on the Bluey partnership!
  • Frontier reduced capacity in September 15% week over week with big reductions in international markets
  • Airlines are getting competitive with some routes like ISP to RDU seeing both Breeze and Frontier in the market; and BQN to TPA with both JetBlue and Frontier preparing to battle. Ay papi!

American is resuming LAX to Auckland, NZ (AKL) from December through March 3 and cancelling SEA to London Heathrow (LHR) from October 28 through March 29. Several routes are cancelled from August through September.

Avelo announced and filed nine new routes from Wilmington, DE (ILG) starting in June.

Avianca announced and filed new service to LAS from San Salvador (SAL) starting in July.

Bahamas Air cancelled MIA to San Salvador, BS (ZSA) from September through mid-October.

Breeze announced and filed new service from ISP to PWM and RDU starting in June.

Delta reduced capacity in June and July by 3% week over week. They cancelled LAX to Mexico City (MEX) from June 5 through July 9 and cancelled MKE to SLC in June.

Frontier reduced capacity in September by 15% week over week. International capacity was reduced by 65% week over week for September. Over 30 routes were cancelled from Mid-August or September onward. See link above for markets. They are resuming ISP to RDU in August after last serving it in July 2022.

Prague International Airport

JetBlue announced and filed new service from BQN to TPA starting in July and will resume service between SJU and RDU in July. They also announced and filed new service between ORH and RSW starting in January 2024 and will resume MCO to ORH in June. ORH will see JFK service cancelled from June 15 onward. DCA to JFK start date will be pushed out from June until September 16.

Sichuan Airlines cancelled LAX to Chengdu (TFU) in May.

Southern Airways Express cancelled MEM to Harrison, AR (HRO) from January 6 onward (still has service to DFW). They also cancelled service from ITO to OGG from January 7 onward and will exit ITO at that time. They also cancelled service in the Marianas from SPN to ROP and TIQ due to the government cancelling their contract.

United announced and filed new service from LAX to Auckland (AKL) and Brisbane (BNE) and from SO to Christchurch (CHC) starting this winter. They cancelled EWR to HHH from October 29 through March 7; IAH to Providenciales (PLS) from November 26 through March 8; and ORD to Ixtapa (ZIH) from November through December 15.

Westjet removed YYZ to SJU from future schedules. They only serve SJU from YYZ.
