Themes of the Week
- Canadian airlines reduced capacity to the United States and Cuba.
- Volaris is adding new routes to the United States.
- Air Canada and Frontier will have their earnings calls this week.
Capacity Update
Aerus (ZV)
- Filed new service from Monterrey, Mexico (MTY) to MFE starting on March 27 with once daily service.
Air Canada (AC)
- Suspended flights to Cuba markets Holguin (HOG) and Santa Clara (SNU) from YYZ in March and April due to impending fuel shortages on the island.
Air Transat (TS)
- Also reduced capacity to Cuba markets HOG and Cayo Coco (CCC) in March and April.
- Suspended service to FLL from YQB and YUL from May and June onward.
- Suspended service to MCO from YUL from May 4 onward.
- With these suspensions, Air Transat will have no flights to the U.S. after June 13 (exception: two flights in December scheduled for SJU).
American (AA)
- Reduced capacity by -1% and -3% week over week in May and June respectively.
Cayman Airways (KX)
- Filed new service from Grand Cayman (GCM) to AUS from May through August with once weekly flights.
Delta (DL)
- Will resume JFK to SNA from May onward with six times weekly service. They last served the route in January 2019.
Edelweiss (WK)
- Reduced capacity from Zurich, Switzerland (ZRH) to LAS, SEA and TPA this spring and summer.
Frontier (F9)
- Extended their schedule through May 31, 2026.
- Will resume ORD to SJU in May. They last served the route in 2022.
JetBlue (B6)
- Reduced capacity -1% to -3% week over week in June through September.
Porter (PD)
- Suspending two routes from May onward: YTZ to YQG and YSB.
Volaris (Y4)
- Filed 10 new routes to the United States: Puebla, MX (PBC) to EWR, IAH and LAX; Queretaro, MX (QRO) to DEN, DFW, IAH and MCO; Guadalajara, MX (GDL) to DTW and SLC; and San Luis Potosi, MX (SLP) to MDW.
WestJet (WS)
- Reduced capacity to the United States -11% to -32% week over week in June through October.
- They removed 14 routes from future schedules with 10 of the routes serving the United States: YEG to ORD, SEA, SFO and YUL; YHZ to MCO; YVR to BOS, SAN, SFO, YOW and YUL; YWG to BNA and YUL; YYC to RDU; and YYZ to LAX.
- They filed four new domestic routes starting in May or June: YYC to YBL, YAM and YYB; and YEG to YXT.
- They filed eight summer suspensions: YEG to ATL and YXX; YLW to SEA; YVR to MCO; YWG to LAS; YYC to OGG; and YYZ to LAS and YLW.
