Air Service One – Bitesize Analysis of the Day – 19th March 2026 – Virgin Atlantic 2010 – 2025

ASO Bitesize Analysis

As the name very much suggests, Virgin Atlantic‘s main focus has always been on the US market. AIR SERVICE ONE analysis of Cirium schedules data shows that US routes have typically accounted for between 60% and 70% of annual seat capacity from the UK since 2010.

This summer Virgin Atlantic will serve 11 US airports with non-stop flights with New York JFK, Orlando MCO and Los Angeles all served at least three times daily. The airline’s most recent new US addition was Tampa International Airport (TPA) in November 2022.

Since COVID, India has become the second biggest country market with the carrier serving Bangalore International Airport Ltd, Delhi International Airport Ltd and Mumbai International Airport Limited (CSMIA), with a total of five daily flights this summer.

COVID also saw Virgin Atlantic transition to an all twin-engine fleet, currently comprising 43 aircraft, a mix of Boeing 787-9s, Airbus A330-300s, A330-900s and A350-1000s. The airline’s classic 747-400s and A340s did not return to active service after March 2020.

PRAGUE AIRPORT

Last year saw the launch of new services from Heathrow Airport to Cancun in Mexico (winter only), Toronto YYZ in Canada and Riyadh in Saudi Arabia (both year-round). Flights to Shanghai were dropped at the end of S24, while routes to Pakistan (Islamabad and Lahore) launched in late 2020 ended in early 2023.

This year will see Virgin add South Korea to its network with the start of daily service to Seoul set to commence on 29 March, while Phuket in Thailand will join the network at the end of October.
