Air Service One – Bitesize Analysis of the Day – 19th May 2026 – airBaltic aircraft seat capacity 2015-2026

Bitesize Analysis

airBaltic now has a fleet of 55 148-seat Airbus A220-300s. Of these, 31 have been delivered since 2021, including four already this year, according to AIR SERVICE ONE analysis of data from planespotters.net. It has been an all-A220 operator since 2020.

While capacity offered across its three Baltic bases (in RIX Riga Airport, Tallinn Airport (TLL) and Lithuanian Airports‘s Vilnius) has grown by only around 12% between 2019 and 2026, the airline has massively increased its ACMI operations for other carriers. According to our analysis of Cirium schedules data, in some months in 2026 (including May), airBaltic’s aircraft will be offering more seats to other airlines than it operates for itself.

This summer airBaltic is flying on behalf of Swiss International Air Lines, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, Air Serbia and Lufthansa. Apart from Air Serbia these are all Lufthansa Group airlines. Remember, Lufthansa Group has a 10% stake in airBaltic.

Looking at Flightradar24 data for last week, airBaltic’s 55 aircraft were based at the following airports: Riga 16, Zurich Airport Ltd 11, Flughafen Wien – Vienna Airport 8, Brussels Airport 6, Tallinn 5, Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport 4, Vilnius 4 and Munich Airport International 1.

Note: Due to operating flights between its three Baltic bases, there is an element of double-counting in the individual airport figures in the graph below.
