Air Service One – Bitesize Analysis of the Day – 8 August 2024

Despite the significant loss of Blue Air, Romania’s airports still handled 12% more passengers in June 2024 than they did in June 2019. Bucharest Airports Otopeni Airport accounts for over half of all air travellers in the country. The country welcomed a new airport, Brasov-Ghimbav Airport (IATA code GHV) which welcomed its first commercial flights last June.
Analysis by AIR SERVICE ONE of Cirium schedules data for June 2024 reveals that Wizz Air is the leading carrier in Romania, offering three times as many seats as its nearest rival Ryanair. National carrier TAROM has now fallen to third place, with capacity down one-third compared with June 2019.
Newcomers in the market include DAN AIR and FLY LILI while Bees Airlines has announced plans to start scheduled services from Bucharest and Suceava later this month.
