American Airlines unveils seven new international routes for 2027
American Airlines has unveiled seven new international routes for the 2027 summer season, including three destinations joining its network.
The carrier will launch daily flights from Philadelphia to Vienna, Porto and Reykjavik, from New York JFK to Amsterdam and Nice, from Charlotte to Barcelona, and from Chicago ORD to Tokyo NRT. It will also reinstate a fourth daily service between New York JFK and London LHR.

The largest portion of the expansion will come from Philadelphia, where American will add three destinations. Daily flights to Porto will begin on 28 March, followed by Vienna on 6 May and Reykjavik on 27 May.
Porto and Vienna will be completely new destinations for American, while the airline will return to the Icelandic capital for the first time since 2019.
Vienna will be operated on an extended seasonal basis until early January 2028 and American will become the only US carrier serving the Austrian capital. The Porto and Vienna routes will be operated by the Airbus A321XLR, while Reykjavik will be served by the A321neo.
New York JFK will gain two additional European destinations. Daily flights to Amsterdam will commence on 28 March, complementing American’s existing year-round Philadelphia – Amsterdam and seasonal Dallas DFW – Amsterdam services. The airline will also introduce daily JFK – Nice flights from 6 May. Both routes will be operated by the A321XLR.
In addition, American will restore a fourth daily JFK – London Heathrow frequency from 28 March using a Boeing 787-9. Together with joint venture partner British Airways, the two carriers will offer up to 14-daily flights between New York and London.
American will further expand its Barcelona network with a new daily service from Charlotte beginning 27 May. Operated by the Boeing 777-200ER, Charlotte will become the airline’s sixth US gateway to the Spanish city.
Elsewhere, the carrier will introduce daily flights between Chicago ORD and Tokyo NRT from 19 March with the Boeing 787-9. The new service is timed to cater for increased demand during Japan’s cherry blossom season and will also provide onward connectivity across East and Southeast Asia through partner Japan Airlines.
The airline will also bring forward the resumption of two existing seasonal European routes in 2027. Charlotte – Paris CDG and Miami – Milan MXP flights will restart on 4 March, extending their operating seasons amid what American says is growing demand for spring travel to Europe.
American’s 2027 expansion will also represent a further deployment of its Airbus A321XLR fleet on transatlantic routes. Four of the newly announced services – Philadelphia to Porto and Vienna, as well as New York JFK to Amsterdam and Nice – will be operated by the long-range narrow-body aircraft.
