Amsterdam gained 11 airlines in 2025/2026; has highest-ever capacity in peak summer

Amsterdam is Europe’s fourth-busiest airport for passenger traffic. In 2025, Schiphol had 68.8 million passengers, which was surpassed by only London LHR, Istanbul IST and Paris CDG. This was Amsterdam’s third-best year to date. Aptly, 10 million passengers have been added in the past 10 years.
The airport’s recovery has been assisted by multiple new and returning carriers. In 2025 and 2026 alone, Cirium schedule data indicates that additional operators include Bluebird Airways, FlyOne Armenia, IndiGo, LATAM, Middle East Airlines (MEA), Oman Air, Syrian Air, Thai Airways, Transavia France, Vietnam Airlines and WestJet.

KLM has grown by 5% year-over-year
Cirium shows that Amsterdam has 11.4 million one-way seats in Q3 2026 (July-September). Capacity is at the highest level to date, and exceeds the prior record, held in the same quarter last year, by 1.4%.
Nearly 80 operators serve Amsterdam. With 9% more seats, Turkish Airlines has entered the top 10 list, pushing out Air France (-48%). Air France has ended AMS-Lyon (now served by sibling KLM) and substantially reduced capacity to Paris CDG (KLM has consequently increased the number of seats). In contrast, Turkish Airlines has added a 6th-daily flight from Istanbul IST, although widebodies as a share of flights has fallen from 78% to 59%.
With half of the seats, KLM is obviously the leading carrier. However, Amsterdam is not a fortress hub, as that is defined as having 70% or more of the capacity. When other SkyTeam airlines are included, the proportion rises to 59%.
KLM now serves 164 destinations, with the UK, Germany, US, France and Italy being the top five countries by capacity. London LHR, Barcelona, Berlin, Copenhagen and Rome are the leading five routes. Compared to Q3 2025, KLM now serves Asturias, Jersey, Santiago de Compostela and Tel Aviv. However, it has since ended flights to Palma de Mallorca.

Barcelona is the most-served airport
Cirium indicates that Amsterdam has flights to 273 destinations in Q3 2026. Unlike the same period last year, Atyrau, Banjul, Enfidha, Erbil, Fez, Gazipaza, Harstad/Narvik, Paris ORY and Skopje no longer have flights. However, 12 destinations are now served. The following frequencies refer to what is available in August 2026.
- 16 November 2025: Rabat, Transavia (3-weekly)
- 1 April 2026: Yerevan, FlyOne Armenia (2-weekly)
- 4 April 2026: Jersey, KLM (daily)
- 6 April 2026: Alghero, Transavia (2-weekly)
- 24 April 2026: Brindisi, Transavia (2-weekly)
- 11 May 2026: Skiathos, Transavia (weekly)
- 13 May 2026: Tivat, TUI Fly (2-weekly)
- 17 May 2026: Mersin, SunExpress (weekly)
- 16 June 2026: Hanoi, Vietnam Airlines (3-weekly)
- 23 June 2026: Fuzhou, Xiamen Airlines (2-weekly)
- 3 July 2026: Beirut, MEA (3-weekly); Transavia operated between November 2025 and April 2026
- 13 July 2026: Damascus, Syrian Air (3-weekly)
With 246,000 one-way seats, down by 5%, Barcelona is Amsterdam’s leading destination. 99-weekly departures are available in August, provided by Vueling (45-weekly), KLM (43) and Transavia (11). However, due to lower-capacity aircraft, London LHR is Amsterdam’s top market by flights (103-weekly departures).
