Austrian is a member of Star Alliance and is part of the Lufthansa Group. According to Planespotters.net, its fleet consists of 68 aircraft, although not all of them are active. It has 29 A320ceos, 17 E195s, six A321ceos, six 777-300ERs, five A320neos, three 767-300ERs and two 787-9s. Its Dreamliners entered service in 2024.

Austrian has record seats in W25

Analysis of Cirium’s schedule data indicates that Austrian plans 6.82 million two-way seats in W25, which is its highest winter offering to date. It is the first time since COVID-19 that its offering has exceeded what was available then.

Nearly all of Austrian’s seats are from Vienna, which has been a hotbed of (U)LCC growth in recent years. However, Wizz Air’s closure of its base in October 2025 contributed to Austrian’s share of Vienna seats rising to 47%. That is its joint-highest share since W17.

Austrians Winter Capacity W15-W25

The airline has 95 routes in W25

Some three routes are domestic (Vienna-Graz, Innsbruck, Klagenfurt), while 92 are international. Only six markets do not touch Vienna (Innsbruck-Amsterdam, Billund, Brussels, Copenhagen, Warsaw WAW, and Klagenfurt-Hamburg).

Based on having at least six departing flights, Austrian has 86 international routes from the country’s capital. Some 19 of these are outside Europe: Amman, Bangkok, Boston, Cairo, Chicago ORD, Dubai, Erbil, Male, Marrakech, Mauritius, Montreal, Newark, New York JFK, Shanghai, Tbilisi, Tehran, Tel Aviv, Washington IAD and Yerevan.

The carrier’s network comprises 46 nations. For obvious reasons, Germany and Switzerland are the top two countries, with Italy, France and Spain rounding out the top five markets. They collectively account for almost one in two of its seats.

How its network has changed compared to W24

Austrian now serves three more destinations. On 26 October 2025, Milan LIN rejoined its network (26-weekly). While it last served LIN in 2021, regular service existed until 2011. Its return meant flights to MXP ended.

On 1 December 2025, Austrian returned to Dubai (5-weekly) after a ten-year absence. Using aircraft freed up due to being the winter, it is being publicised as a trial. While usually only served in the summer, Dubrovnik now sees the airline through the winter (except in January 2026).

Compared to last winter, MXP no longer sees the airline (dropped in October in favour of LIN), along with Manchester (flights ended in October) and Seville (ended in October).

Frankfurt is the top route from Vienna

With 283,000 one-way seats, Austrian has more capacity between Vienna and Frankfurt than anywhere else.  In mid-January, it has 67-weekly departing flights. It has nearly replaced Lufthansa (just 5-weekly), while Condor entered the market on 30 March (21-weekly).

With 73% more seats than in W24, Zurich has jumped from fourth place to second. This is because Austrian has replaced SWISS, whose last Vienna service occurred in October. Austrian is now the sole operator between the two cities.
