Cathay Pacific’s adds 5 more European, North American & Australasian destinations in 2025

Cathay to Adelaide

Hong Kong’s Cathay Pacific is Asia’s second-largest international airline by available seats. Planespotters.net indicates that it has a fleet of 159 passenger aircraft to achieve this, comprising 43 A330-300s, 35 777-300ERs, 30 A350-900s, 18 A350-1000s, 17 777-300ERs and 16 A321neos.

Cirium schedule information shows Cathay had 17.2 million one-way seats in 2025, 18% more than in 2019, helped by subsuming Cathay Dragon. Things are very different for its European, North American and Australasian operations. In 2025, these places have 4.3 million of Cathay’s total, down by 11% compared to 2019. This is massively because of Europe’s substantial capacity reduction (-21%), despite more airports rejoining its network.

Cathay serves 28 airports in Europe, North America & Australasia in 2025

Twelve European airports are served: Amsterdam, Barcelona, Brussels, Frankfurt, London LHR, Madrid, Manchester, Milan MXP, Munich, Paris CDG, Rome FCO and Zurich.

Brand-new service to Munich will begin on 16 June (4-weekly). After last being served in 2020, Cathay will return to Rome FCO on June 5 (3-weekly), followed by Brussels on 3 August (4-weekly). However, compared to 2019, London LGW and Dublin have not returned.

Eight North American airports are in its network: Boston, Chicago ORD, Dallas DFW, Los Angeles, New York JFK, San Francisco, Toronto and Vancouver. On 24 April 2025, DFW joined its network (4-weekly). It was previously served by fellow oneworld member American Airlines between 2014 and 2020. Newark, Seattle and Washington IAD have not returned to Cathay’s map.

Birmingham Airport

Eight Australasian airports see Cathay’s passenger frames: Adelaide, Auckland, Brisbane, Cairns, Christchurch, Melbourne, Perth and Sydney. Having last been served in 2020, Adelaide will return on 11 November (3-weekly). When that happens, Cathay’s pre-pandemic Australian network will be fully recovered, although with fewer frequencies.

Cathay has the most capacity to London LHR

LHR is first, with seats back to what was available in 2019. Cathay has up to 6-daily flights, albeit only on summer Saturdays. Up to 5-daily departures were available in 2019, with the additional frequency partly influenced by LGW no longer being served. Capacity has not exceeded what it was before the pandemic due to slightly lower-gauge aircraft being used.

Six of Cathay’s top 10 airports in the analysed areas have more capacity than they did before the pandemic, none more so than Brisbane. The Queensland capital has 163,000 one-way seats, up by 34% to by far its highest level, pushing Paris CDG from the list. Brisbane’s growth is because Cathay no longer stops in Cairns on some of its flights. Both cities are now served on a standalone basis, increasing non-stop capacity and competitiveness.
