Indianapolis International Airport sets new records and continues award-winning streak

Indianapolis Airport

The numbers are in! The only airport to be named Best Airport in North America by Airports Council International for 12 years in a row is breaking passenger traffic records in 2024

The Indianapolis International Airport (IND) experienced the largest first quarter in IND history with more than 2.4 million passengers.

Indianapolis hosting NBA All-Star in February and a record-breaking Spring Break travel season contributed to IND’s first quarter success. March was IND’s biggest single month ever, with more than 967,000 passengers, and surpassed the previous record held in 2019 by nearly 10 percent.

This first quarter’s success comes on the heels of a record-breaking 2023, with nine of the 10 busiest days in IND history occurring in 2023 and 2024 according to TSA throughput.

Looking ahead to the 108th running of the Indianapolis 500 and the summer travel season, IAA officials expect the highest seat capacity month in the Indy airport’s history — with more than 567,000 seats available on incoming flights.

IND is an essential part of Indianapolis’ success in recruiting top events and major conventions to the city, including large annual conventions like Gen Con and National FFA, major sporting events with like the NFL Combine and the NCAA Men’s Basketball March Madness Tournament, and the upcoming U.S. Olympic Team Trials – Swimming. And in November, Indianapolis will welcome Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour – the world’s most successful concert tour of all time. The Indy airport is the first welcome and last experience for hundreds of thousands traveling through Indianapolis.
