London Luton Airport: Boosting capacity and transforming connectivity

The Luton Airport Express has transformed LTN’s rail connectivity

2025 has been another momentous year for London Luton Airport (LTN), with new routes and destinations, as well as the arrival of Jet2.com.

Following a phenomenal start, the leisure carrier has announced an expanded summer 2026 programme, with greater capacity in the form of 620,000 seats and 50 weekly flights to 22 routes and destinations.

With a catchment of 12 million people within a one-hour drive (including north-west London), and 22 million within a 2-hour drive, LTN is the UK’s fifth-busiest airport and was recently named by Skytrax as the UK’s best for low-cost airlines – and among the top 10 globally.

easyJet, Ryanair and Wizz Air have bolstered their route networks this year and, with peak summer 2026 slots available, the airport is perfectly placed to capitalise on London’s aviation demand.

LTN is also set to capitalise on a regional investment boom. The new Universal Studios Park, opening in 2031 just 20 miles from LTN, positions the airport as the perfect gateway. Universal predicts approximately 8.5 million visitors in its first year, with around 30% expected to travel through LTN.

LTN’s commitment to connectivity and to driving passengers toward more sustainable transport choices is also reaping dividends, with expanding public transport connections and continuing infrastructure upgrades. The Luton Airport Express has transformed LTN’s rail connectivity, whisking passengers from London to the terminal in around 30 minutes.

Continued investment in enhanced terminal facilities has included a new Assisted Travel Lounge, improved children’s play facilities and even more shops and restaurants.

Simon Harley, Interim Director of Aeronautical Revenue at LTN, said: “Last year, LTN achieved its highest-ever customer satisfaction score, with four out of five passengers rating their experience as very good or excellent. We are always looking to identify opportunities to offer our passengers even greater choice, so it’s exciting to offer peak London capacity for summer 2026 – all of which makes for an exceptionally exciting future for LTN.”
