New era of growth at Billund Airport

Billund Airport
As existing partners expand their networks from Billund, there’s still plenty of room for more.

Major expansion from partners and new routes signal an exciting new chapter for Western Denmark.

As airlines actively seize new opportunities in the Danish market, a landmark partnership is set to define the next chapter of growth for Billund Airport.

In a historic expansion starting in spring 2026, Norwegian will triple its network from 5 to 15 routes, becoming the largest airline operating out of Western Denmark’s main international gateway.

The expansion strategically diversifies the network, adding key European capitals like Rome and Edinburgh alongside highly demanded leisure destinations such as Milan (Bergamo) and Nice.

This significant investment comes from an airline at the top of its game, having recently been crowned Best European Airline at the Danish Travel Awards.

A market seizing opportunity

The expansion is the headline in a broader story of growth. The market is responding decisively to shifts in capacity, and key partners are stepping up, including Wizz Air. With the addition of Tirana next March on top of the five new routes launched during 2025, the Hungarian airline is investing in the growing potential of Western Denmark.

The international gateway of West Denmark

These strategic moves are built on the solid foundation of Billund Airport’s unique market position.

Strong inbound tourism, powered by world-renowned brands like LEGOLAND®, is part of a wider Danish tourism success story that saw 23 million foreign overnight stays in 2024 in Western Denmark alone.

While inbound tourism thrives, the outbound market remains an unwavering pillar of success.

Billund Airport serves a vast and valuable catchment area with 2.6 million people living within a 90-minute drive. This region’s high purchasing power and strong travel culture deliver a steady and reliable flow of leisure, VFR, and business travellers.

The powerful combination of inbound investment and a large, wealthy outbound market is what partners consistently identify as the key driver for investment. It confirms that Western Denmark is a region on the move, and Billund is the airport that connects it to the world.
