New London capacity for 2025 at LTN

As one of the UK’s largest airports, London Luton Airport (LTN) connects people to 140 destinations in 40 counties across Europe, the Middle East and North Africa.
With new London capacity, and new peak slots released for summer 2025, along with several exciting new destinations including Athens, Basel, Djerba and Tbilisi, it promises to be another exciting 12 months for LTN.
LTN’s ambitious plans for responsible growth are already in motion. Earlier this year, LTN secured consent to increase its annual passenger capacity from 18 to 19 million, providing the perfect springboard for its continued success and significant employment and economic benefits to the local region.
It doesn’t end there though, with LTN set to play a key role in delivering future London growth as part of plans from Luton Rising, the airport owner, to expand passenger capacity to 32 million per annum.
An ongoing investment programme has included the £20 million refurbishment of LTN’s security hall, including state-of-the-art body scanners and CT bag scanning technology, meaning faster processing times, as passengers can leave liquids and electronic items in hand luggage.
Other investments include an express drop off in front of the terminal, two swish passenger lounges and more shops and restaurants bringing even greater choice for passengers. A new lounge for passengers requiring special assistance will also open in the coming months.
These enhancements aren’t going unnoticed. This year, LTN was crowned European Airport of the Year (10-25 million passengers) in the prestigious ACI Europe Best Airport Awards. Seeing off fellow finalists Alicante and Brussels Airports, LTN was recognised for outstanding achievement across numerous commercial, operational, sustainability and customer service-related disciplines, as well as all-round resilience and adaptability.
One area highlighted by the judges was LTN’s focus on enhancing connectivity and promoting sustainable travel to and from the airport.
Central to this approach has been the transformational, all-electric Luton Airport Express which brings LTN even closer to central London, with a journey time of around 30-minutes from London St Pancras to the terminal.
The service links to the Luton Direct Air-Rail Transit (DART) people carrier that zips passengers between Luton Airport Parkway railway station and the terminal, resulting in a faster, more frequent service that has elevated the appeal of rail as a sustainable travel option for passengers travelling to and from the airport.
