VCE-JED ROUTE LAUNCH

Wizz Air has had a busy start to the summer season launching several new routes. One of those was between Venice VCE and Jeddah in Saudi Arabia, which commenced on Tuesday 28 March. The 3,600-kilometre route will initially operate 2-weekly on Tuesdays and Saturdays and faces no direct competition. Frequencies will be reduced to weekly on Tuesdays during July and August before increasing back to 2-weekly.

What they said

Tamara Nikiforova, Corporate Communication Manager at Wizz Air, said: “We are happy to continue our expansion into Saudi Arabia from Italy, which started only a few months ago and has already proved to be a success. It is with great pleasure that we inaugurate this unique service to Jeddah, which will allow all passengers departing from Venice's Marco Polo Airport to benefit from the immense historical, artistic and cultural heritage that this city offers. Furthermore, with this new route, Wizz Air once again confirms its commitment to Veneto, proudly offering passengers departing from the Venice airport system a total of 26 exciting destinations."

Camillo Bozzolo, the Development Director at airport operator SAVE Group Aviation, added: “After the launch of Yerevan in January, Jeddah today and Riyadh in the coming weeks, Wizz Air will offer 7 medium-haul destinations that will complete its consolidated short-haul network.”

Wizz Air now serves Jeddah from six cities

Wizz Air commenced operations to Jeddah in September 2022 and now serves the Saudi city from six points in Europe.

  • Bucharest, 2-weekly
  • Budapest, 2-weekly
  • Milan MXP, 3-weekly
  • Rome FCO, 4-weekly
  • Vienna 3-weekly

The ULCC will also launch weekly flights from Larnaca in Cyprus to Jeddah on 5 July.  The new routes aim to boost the growing Saudi Arabian tourism sector and contribute to the Vision 2030 program to triple the country’s passenger traffic by 2030.

Wizz Air made Venice VCE a base in March 2022. It operates a mix of domestic and international routes from the airport and plans to serve 17 destinations from the Italian city this summer.
