What they said

Kevin Doyle, UK Country Manager at easyJet, said: “We are delighted to be celebrating the launch of our inaugural flights between Ljubljana and Edinburgh. We are the only carrier providing a direct and convenient connection to the Scottish capital, which is known for its iconic architecture, rich cultural scene and world‑famous festivals. We’re confident this new link will appeal to both leisure and business travellers. In our 30th year, we remain committed to making travel easy by continuing to offer greater choice and exceptional value across our unrivalled network, and we look forward to welcoming our first customers on board this summer.”

Jurgen Deischl, Managing Director of airport operator Fraport Slovenija, added: “We are entering the summer season with one of the strongest route networks Ljubljana Airport has offered in recent years, and today’s launch of the new service to Edinburgh further underlines this positive momentum. easyJet has been a valued partner of Ljubljana Airport for many years, and we are pleased to see our cooperation expand with a third destination added to the network. The new route creates attractive travel opportunities, strengthens links between Slovenia and the UK, and further enhances Ljubljana Airport’s appeal as a convenient gateway. We look forward to welcoming even more passengers, supported by a competitive offer that makes Ljubljana Airport an attractive choice for summer travel.”

easyJet becomes Ljubljana’s fourth-largest airline

Edinburgh is easyJet’s third route to the Slovenian capital, complementing London LGW and Manchester. Based on available two-way seat capacity, it is the fourth-largest airline in Ljubljana this summer season, behind Lufthansa, Turkish Airlines and SWISS, with 122,786 seats or a share of 7.9%.

The LCC is rebuilding its market share held prior to the coronavirus pandemic. In 2019, easyJet was Ljubljana’s second-largest airline by capacity share and passengers carried, behind only flag carrier Adria Airways which filed for bankruptcy in September 2019.

At the time, the LCC maintained flights from London LGW, London STN and Berlin to the Slovenian capital. During the 2019/2020 winter season, until its disruption by the pandemic, easyJet typically operated 14-weekly flights out of Ljubljana with over 2,180 seats on the market each week in each direction. This summer, the carrier offers 11-weekly flights and 2,144 seats.
