New Route of the Day (1 June 2025): Wizz Air between Craiova and Memmingen

Wizz Air introduced flights between Craiova, in southwestern Romania, and Memmingen on Sunday 1 June. The 1,130-kilometre service will be maintained 4-weekly, on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays, with the A320 aircraft. The carrier faces no competition between the two cities.
What they said
Marcel Schutz, Director of Aviation at Memmingen Airport, said: “Our expertise in Eastern Europe is now second to none and we are further consolidating our role as the leading low-cost airport in southern Germany. With almost 30 destinations in these countries, we are extremely popular with passengers from all over Germany, Switzerland and Austria.”
Memmingen now linked to seven Romanian cities
This summer season, Memmingen boasts 33-weekly flights to Romania. Apart from Craiova, it is linked to Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, Timisoara, Iasi, Sibiu and Suceava. All flights are operated by Wizz Air. In total, Memmingen offers 6,583 seats per week to Romania.
Based on scheduled seat capacity, Romania is Memmingen’s second-largest country market after Spain and ahead of Italy.
With around 230,000 inhabitants, Craiova is the largest city in the historic region of Little Wallachia in southwestern Romania. The university city is located around 225 kilometres west of Bucharest.
Memmingen sees strong growth
Memmingen Airport handled 3.2 million passengers in 2024, representing a year-on-year increase of 14.8%. It has positioned itself as one of the few in Germany to have not only reached its pre-pandemic figures but also significantly surpassed them.
Growth has continued into 2025. During the January – April period the airport welcomed 1,053,212 travellers, representing a strong increase of 19.5% on the same period last year.
