New Route of the Day (10 July 2024): Turkish Airlines between Istanbul IST and Turin

Turkish Airlines commenced operations between Istanbul IST and Turin on Wednesday 10 July. The 1,760-kilometre service will be maintained daily with a mix of A321, 737-800 and 737 MAX 8 aircraft. The Star Alliance member faces no competition between the two cities.
What they said
Bilal Eksi, CEO of Turkish Airlines, said: “We are glad to add Turin to our extensive flight network as our 349th destination. By strengthening our ties with Italy with our ninth presence, our guests in Italy’s north-west will be able to enjoy our flag carrier’s unrivalled flight network during their travels, while our passengers from around the world will have the opportunity to experience the wonders of Turin, Italy’s first historical capital city, with the privilege of flying with Turkish Airlines.”
Elisabetta Oliveri, Chairman of Torino Airport, added: “We celebrate with great satisfaction the start of this flight, which opens up new growth prospects for Turin Airport, after two consecutive years in which a traffic record was set. The Turin-İstanbul connection also represents a further driver of development for the entire economy of the area and reconfirms the airport’s role as a strategic player in growth.”
Italy is Turkish Airlines’ second-largest international market in Europe
Turkish Airlines last maintained flights between Istanbul and Turin in January 2018. Back then, the service was operated 3-weekly.
Turin becomes Turkish Airlines’ ninth destination in Italy, joining Bari, Bologna, Catania, Milan MXP, Naples, Palermo, Rome FCO, and Venice. In total, during the peak of S24 the carrier maintains 138-weekly flights from Istanbul IST to Italy, offering just over 26,300 departing seats per week.
Within its network in Italy, Milan MXP is the busiest with 28-weekly flights, followed by Rome FCO with 27-weekly, and Bologna and Venice, both with 20-weekly rotations. No airport in Italy is served less than 6-weekly.
Italy is the second-largest market for Turkish Airlines in Europe, eclipsed only by Germany. With 11 destinations, more German airports see the carrier than any other European country. France (seven) follows Italy, then Spain (five) and the UK (five). Turkish Airlines expanded operations in Italy just last year when it added Palermo to its network.
