New Route of the Day (11 December 2021): TAP Portugal between Lisbon and Punta Cana

TAP Portugal on Saturday 11 December began a new route to Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic. The 6,100-kilometre sector from Lisbon will operate 3-weekly (on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays) during the winter season, using the Star Alliance member’s A330-900s. The route is also set to operate next summer, but only 2-weekly at present. Iberojet also connects the two airports, but primarily during the summer season, with only a handful of flights during the winter season, according to the airline’s on-line booking tool.

Punta Cana has welcomed a number of new European routes in recent months, including Eurowings Discover from Frankfurt (now daily, replacing Lufthansa), Iberia from Barcelona (weekly from 4 December) and Corsair from Paris ORY (also launched on 11 December, with up to 3-weekly flights by February 2022) with Air Belgium planning to start service from Brussels BRU on 15 December. According to Cirium Data and Analytics, the leading airline for flights between Europe and Punta Cana this December is German leisure carrier Condor, which offers 12-weekly flights; seven from Frankfurt, three from Düsseldorf, and two from Munich.
