New Route of the Day (12 September 2022): Vueling between Paris ORY and Shannon

ORY - SNN

Vueling now serves Shannon in the west of Ireland. On Monday 12 September the Spanish carrier began 2-weekly service on the 910-kilometre route from Paris ORY. Flights will operate every Monday and Friday using the airline’s fleet of A321 aircraft. No other carrier connects these two airports. This is Vueling’s third route to Ireland from its Paris base. It began a daily service to Dublin and 2-weekly service to Cork last November. This summer Vueling has served almost 50 destinations non-stop from Orly.

The last time Shannon and Paris were connected with regular scheduled flights was in November 2016 when Ryanair was operating to Paris BVA. The Irish ULCC first started connecting these airports in 2002. However, it has suspended the service on a number of occasions. Aer Lingus connected Shannon with Paris CDG between December 2010 and October 2011, while Air France also operated the same route with 2-daily flights between February 2008 and October 2009.

What they said

Charlotte Dumesnil, Sales Director, Vueling, said: “We are delighted to expand our Irish operations with our first route from Shannon to Paris Orly, building on our existing Irish connections whilst also offering inbound passengers ease of access to the West Coast of Ireland. This new direct route reinforces Vueling’s interest in providing a more flexible and varied proposition for travellers based in Ireland.”

Mary Considine, CEO of The Shannon Airport Group, said: “This is an exciting day for our passengers heading to the beautiful city of Paris and a great day for our team who work hard to grow connectivity options for our passengers from Shannon. We would like to warmly welcome our new scheduled partner Vueling, to Shannon, and look forward to working with them. Paris is a wonderful city break destination for outbound holiday makers and opens the way for French tourists to explore the Wild Atlantic Way via Shannon Airport.”

Vueling becomes fourth scheduled passenger carrier at Shannon

This September, Ryanair is offering flights to 22 destinations from Shannon (including eight in Spain and five in the UK), while Aer Lingus is connecting the airport with London LHR, Boston and New York JFK. United also offers flights to the US, this time to New York EWR. In total the airport sees just over 100 weekly departures, spread fairly evenly across the week.
