New Route of the Day (13 July 2025): Transavia France between Marseille and Funchal

Transavia France added flights between Marseille and Funchal (Madeira Airport) on Sunday 13 July. The 2,260-kilometre service will be maintained weekly with the 737-800 aircraft. The LCC faces no competition between the two cities.
Flight TO7844 departs Marseille at 15:55 local time, arriving in Funchal at 18:25 local time. The return service, operating as flight TO7845, takes off from the island at 19:05 local time, touching back down at Provence Airport at 23:25 local time.
What they said
Nicolas Henin, Deputy CEO of Commercial and Marketing at Transavia France, said: “The new connection between these two destinations, which share sunshine and stunning beaches as key attractions, also aims to celebrate the diverse cultures and idiosyncrasies that exist across Europe.”
Karen Stougo, Chief Commercial Officer of Madeira Airport operator ANA VINCI Airports, added: “The new route between Marseille and Madeira represents an important milestone for the region’s connectivity, marking the first time this French destination has a direct connection to the archipelago, operated by Transavia. This inauguration reflects the collaborative work of our route development teams, our partners, and regional entities, and underscores Transavia’s increasingly important role in the growth of the French market to Madeira.”
Madeira Airport registers strong passenger growth
Funchal Airport, located on the island of Madeira, handled 2,091,485 passengers during the January – May period, representing a year-on-year increase of 11.3%. Figures rose by 63.2% on the pre-pandemic 2019. This sustained expansion is primarily fuelled by international tourism. In May alone, international passengers surged by 22.6%, making up about 58% of the total traffic, while domestic travel grew more moderately at 4-5%.
Madeira Airport welcomed its first North American carrier this summer, with United commencing seasonal operations to New York EWR, joining Caracas as the airport’s only other transatlantic service.
The new Transavia France flights from Marseille were initially planned as a summer only operation. However, they have now been extended into the winter. They will be maintained until 7 September and resume 12 December until the end of the 2025/26 winter season.
