New Route of the Day (15 August 2026): Sundair between Berlin and Damascus

Sundair commenced flights between Berlin and Damascus on Saturday 15 August. Flights will operate 2-weekly, on Tuesdays and Saturdays, with the A320 aircraft. The carrier does not face any competition on the route.
Flight SR196 departs Berlin at 11:00 local time, touching down in Damascus at 16:05 local time. The return service, operating as flight SR197, takes off at 17:05 local time, arriving back in the German capital at 20:30 local time.
What they said
Marcos Rossello, CEO of Sundair, said: “We have a huge Syrian community in Berlin. Starting with two flights is just a drop in the ocean. We plan to expand services, depending on the bilateral agreements with Syria and the available capacity at Damascus Airport. The flight to the Syrian capital takes approximately four hours. We see opportunities for further growth as the situation in the Middle East stabilises and we plan to begin flying to the Syrian city of Aleppo in October. We have been serving the Lebanese capital, Beirut, for about five years and have had a good experience so far.”
Flights resume after 15 years
This marks the first nonstop flight between the German capital region and Syria since 2011. It has been made possible by the bilateral air services agreement concluded between Germany and Syria in mid-July.
Sundair becomes the second German carrier to serve the Syrian market, following LEAV Aviation. Approximately 12,000 people with Syrian citizenship live in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern state in north-east Germany, which gravitates towards Berlin.
Since the overthrow of the Assad regime at the end of 2024, the government of interim president Ahmed al-Sharaa has been pursuing a policy of opening the country up and developing closer ties with the West. This has resulted in a number of new flights, primarily from the Middle East, but also from Europe.
Sundair, with a fleet of five aircraft, including two A319s and three A320s, primarily carries holidaymakers to and from destinations in the Mediterranean, the Red Sea, and the Canary Islands.
