New Route of the Day (15 January 2022): Icelandair between Reykjavik and Salzburg
Icelandair has begun what will be a relatively short-lived service from Reykjavik to Salzburg in Austria. The first flight on the 2,800-kilometre route took place on Saturday 15 January. In a rather neat touch, the inaugural service was operated by one of the airline’s new 737 MAX 8s, with the registration TF-ICE. The weekly service is set to operate just eight times, according to Cirium data, with the last flight on 5 March. Competition on the route comes from newcomer PLAY, which launched its own weekly service on Saturday 22 January. PLAY will operate the route just six times, until 26 February using its A321neos.
