New Route of the Day (17 June 2024): FlyOne between Chisinau and Prague


FlyOne introduced flights between Chisinau and Prague on Monday 17 June. The 1,140-kilometre service will be maintained 2-weekly, on Mondays and Fridays, with the carrier’s A320-family fleet. It faces no competition between the two cities. Flights between the two capitals were last maintained by Wizz Air and Air Moldova in 2023, however, the ULCC has since discontinued the route, while the latter has ceased all operations.

Martin Tatek, Route Development Manager at Prague Airport, said: “We believe that this new route will strengthen not only tourist potential but also business ties between the two countries.”

Prague served by 70 airlines

Prague Airport will be served by over 70 airlines this summer, offering scheduled flights to more than 170 destinations.

Some of the new arrivals in S24, in addition to FlyOne, include SCAT Airlines, which has resumed operations to Astana, Qanot Sharq from Tashkent, Georgian Wings from Tbilisi, Eurowings with services to Tallinn, and Ryanair which has expanded its offering by adding Poznan to Prague’s portfolio of routes.

Czech carrier Smartwings has also introduced new flights, with services to Brindisi and Ponta Delgada. Furthermore, Volotea has commenced Florence and Verona as its two new Italian routes, SunExpress added Izmir, while easyJet launches seasonal summer flights to Palma de Mallorca in late June.

During the month, Hainan Airlines will restore operations to the Czech capital by introducing flights from Beijing PEK. This will be followed by EGYPTAIR with a new service from Cairo on 9 July, while a day later Eznis Airways will inaugurate operations between the Mongolian capital of Ulaanbaatar and Prague.

Prague secures ten new routes for winter

Complementing its strong summer season, Prague is set to see several new routes during the upcoming 2024/25 winter, which begins in October.

easyJet will headline the growth with the introduction of flights from Prague to Belfast BFS, Birmingham, Glasgow, Liverpool, Nantes, Naples, and Nice, In addition, will commence operations to the Czech capital from Edinburgh and Liverpool, expanding its seasonal winter flight program.

Following the success of its regular winter seasonal charter flights from Prague, World2Fly will expand its offer with the addition of services to Holguin in Cuba and Porto Vallarta in Mexico. The flights are being operated on behalf of two Czech tour operators, which are part of the DER Touristik Group.

On the other hand, Czech Airlines will end its operations in October 2024, handing them over to Smartwings while being repurposed into a holding company for both airlines. Since all flights will be taken over, Czech Airlines’ demise will not impact Prague Airport’s capacity.
