New Route of the Day (20 April 2022): PLAY between Reykjavik and Baltimore/Washington
Icelandic newcomer PLAY (IATA code OG) launched its first service to the US on Wednesday 20 April. The 4,445-kilometre service between Reykjavik KEF and Baltimore/Washington will operate daily using the airline’s A321neos. At present PLAY is the only carrier connecting the two airports. However, Icelandair will also start flying the route from 13 May, offering up to 4-weekly service, mostly operated by its new 737 MAX 8s. The Icelandic flag-carrier last served the route in the summer of 2018, and then before that in 2007.
Two more US routes starting soon
PLAY plans to launch two further US routes before the end of the year. They are Boston (daily from 11 May) and New York SWF (daily from 9 June). It has also announced additional new routes to Europe for this summer including Bologna, Brussels BRU, Dublin, Gothenburg, Lisbon, Malaga, Prague and Stuttgart.
