SAW-ALC officials

Pegasus Airlines added flights between Istanbul SAW and Alicante to its network on Tuesday 23 June. The 2,570-kilometre service will be maintained 4-weekly, on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays, with the A321neo aircraft. The LCC does not face competition between the two airports.

Flight PC1121 departs Istanbul SAW at 10:30 local time, arriving in Alicante at 13:20 local time. The return service, operating as flight PC1122, takes off at 14:25 local time, arriving back in Türkiye at 19:10 local time.

What they said

Laura Navarro Villanueva, Director of Alicante Airport, said: “The addition of Pegasus Airlines to this route further expands the options for travellers from Alicante to reach Turkey without needing to make stopovers at other European airports. At the same time, it facilitates the arrival of international visitors to the province of Alicante, one of the leading holiday destinations in the Mediterranean. Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernandez Airport continues to solidify its position as one of Spain’s most important airports for international traffic. The majority of its passengers come from European markets, although in recent years airlines have focused on opening new routes that significantly expand travel options from the province. The addition of Istanbul is precisely in response to this diversification strategy, offering a destination that combines tourism, culture, business and international connections.”

Record summer for Alicante

Alicante Airport has entered the peak summer season on a high, setting new passenger records in both April and May, with the latter becoming the airport’s first-ever month to handle more than two million passengers.

To accommodate growing demand, the airport has increased frequencies on several key routes and markets, particularly to the UK and Germany, while also adding a number of new destinations. These include services to Casablanca with Royal Air Maroc and Rome FCO with ITA Airways.

In addition to Pegasus Airlines’ new service to Istanbul, among the most anticipated new routes this summer is the recently launched service to the Armenian capital of Yerevan, which is now the longest route operated from Alicante.

The Istanbul service is the penultimate addition to the airport’s summer network expansion, which will conclude with two new routes to Venice, operated by Wizz Air and Ryanair.
