New Route of the Day (23 May 2022): Eurowings Discover between Frankfurt and Salt Lake City
Eurowings Discover (IATA code 4Y), the mostly long-haul leisure brand from German flag-carrier Lufthansa, launched a new route to the US on Monday 23 May. Using an A330-300, the airline has started 3-weekly service (Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays) between Frankfurt and Salt Lake City in Utah. The 8,400-kilometre route becomes the carrier’s fourth US destination from Frankfurt after Las Vegas, Tampa (started last December) and Fort Myers (launched 28 March 2022). A fifth US destination, Anchorage in Alaska, is set to commence on 2 June with 3-weekly service. It also serves Las Vegas from Munich.
Second European carrier to serve SLC
Salt Lake City International Airport ranked as the 23rd busiest airport in the US in 2019, handling 26.81 million passengers. Delta is the dominant carrier at the airport accounting for over 70% of all flights and seats this summer. European services are still relatively rare at the airport. Eurowings Discover joins KLM in becoming the only other European carrier to serve the airport. The other European services are:
- Delta to Amsterdam; served since May 2015, operating daily this summer
- Delta to London LHR; served since May 2016, operating daily this summer
- Delta to Paris CDG; served since June 2008, operating daily this summer
- KLM to Amsterdam; served since May 2016, operating 3-weekly this summer
