Wizz Air added a new service from its Larnaca base by launching flights to Madrid on Thursday 24 September. The 3,315-kilometre route will be maintained 3-weekly, on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, with the 239-seat A321neo aircraft. The LCC has no competition between the two cities.

Flight W64663 departs Larnaca at 13:35 local time, arriving in Madrid at 17:35 local time. The return service, operating as flight W64664, takes off at 18:20 local time, arriving back in Cyprus at 00:05 local time the following day.

What they said

Andras Szabo, Network Director at Wizz Air, said, “We are delighted to launch a direct connection between Larnaca and Madrid, uniting two destinations with strategic importance for us. This route reflects our ongoing commitment to Cyprus and our ambition to strengthen connectivity between Cyprus and Spain, giving passengers more choice, better value and easier access to new opportunities for travel, business and tourism.”

Maria Kouroupi, Director Aviation Development, Marketing & Communication at operator Hermes Airports, added: “The launch of the direct connection between Larnaca and Madrid is an important addition to our route network, further expanding the travel options available to passengers. This new connection is the result of our consistent efforts and close cooperation with Wizz Air, a long-standing partner of Hermes Airports. We are very happy to continue working together on the development of new routes and the further expansion of Cyprus’ air connectivity. We wish the new route every success!”

Wizz Air to open Madrid base

Wizz Air will open a base at Madrid Airport on 3 November, stationing two A321neo aircraft in the Spanish capital. The development forms part of the carrier’s wider expansion in Spain, which also includes a new base in Valencia. From Madrid, Wizz Air will operate 27 routes to twelve countries, increasing its capacity at the airport by 48% and offering some 4.8 million seats annually.

The Madrid base will support the launch of four new routes, including domestic services to Asturias, Palma de Mallorca and Santiago de Compostela, as well as an international operation to Pisa.

The expansion will also enable Wizz Air to increase frequencies on several existing routes and improve operational resilience by permanently stationing aircraft and locally based crews at the airport.
