New Route of the Day (27 January 2025): SAS between Stockholm ARN and Halmstad

SAS between Stockholm ARN and Halmstad

SAS introduced a new domestic service between Stockholm ARN and Halmstad on Monday 27 January. The 445-kilometre route will be maintained 11-weekly, with 2-daily flights Mondays through Fridays, as well as a daily service on Sundays. An ATR72 turboprop aircraft will be deployed on the route. The carrier faces no competition between the two cities.

On the same day, the SkyTeam member restored operations between Stockholm ARN and Kalmar, which were suspended in 2023.

What they said

Anko van der Werff, President & CEO of SAS, said: “We are growing from Arlanda Airport, connecting local communities to the world and fostering greater global accessibility and opportunities. We’re thrilled to open new routes to Halmstad and Kalmar and look forward to continue closely collaborating with local airports and regional partners to ensure the success of these routes.”

Edward Fotheringham, Vice President Global Sales at SAS, added: “We are very pleased to begin operations to Halmstad and Kalmar, as this is a natural step in SAS’ long-term commitment to enhancing travel options within Sweden and internationally. Strong connections for both leisure and business travellers are a win for the entire country, playing a crucial role in boosting the Swedish economy across multiple sectors.”

Anders Thornberg, Governor of Halland County, of which Halmstad is the capital, noted: “The air link between Halmstad and Stockholm is a vital part of Sweden’s infrastructure. Not only does it facilitate business, government presence, and regional development, but it also plays a crucial role in our defence and societal preparedness”.

SAS expands domestic operations through Braathens

The expansion of SAS’ domestic network in Sweden was made possible by the recent long-term wet-lease agreement between the carrier and Braathens. Under the terms of the wet-lease agreement, Braathens will operate several aircraft on behalf of SAS, providing capacity on key domestic routes in Sweden as well as feeding into the Copenhagen hub.

In addition to launching operations to Halmstad, SAS also recently commenced seasonal winter flights between Stockholm ARN and Salen, located in the Scandinavian Mountains near the Norwegian boarder, with services to be maintained 3-weekly.
