New Route of the Day (27 October 2024): Air Cairo between Cairo and Cologne Bonn

CAI-CGN

Air Cairo introduced flights between Cairo and Cologne/Bonn on Sunday 27 October. The 3,060-kilometre route will be maintained 2-weekly, on Thursdays and Sundays, with the A320 aircraft. The carrier will compete against Nile Air’s 2-weekly rotations between the two cities.

What they said

Thilo Schmid, Chairman of the Management Board of Cologne/Bonn Airport, said: “Cairo is always worth a visit, not least because of its rich history and the world-famous pyramids of Giza and the Sphinx. And because many travellers are also drawn to Egypt in autumn and winter, the new Air Cairo route is a great addition to our flight schedule.”

Air Cairo now serves Cologne/Bonn from three cities

Air Cairo’s service to the Egyptian capital becomes its third from Cologne/Bonn. It complements its daily flights to Hurghada and 2-weekly to Marsa Alam. As a result, Air Cairo maintains 11-weekly services from the German city, offering almost 2,000 departing seats per week.

Based in Cairo, Air Cairo is a subsidiary of national carrier EGYPTAIR. Eastblished in 2003, it has steadily grown to handle more than 20 million passengers. It has a fleet of more than 30 aircraft serving around 50 destinations in Europe, Africa and Asia.

Cologne/Bonn linked to 69 destinations this winter

This winter season, Cologne/Bonn boasts a total of 21 airlines flying to 69 destinations in 29 different countries. Apart from Air Cairo, new routes are being introduced by Eurowings to Dubai DWC and Jeddah. Furthermore, Eurowings is also operating services to destinations that were previously only served during the summer months. These include Alicante, Chisinau and Valencia.

Marabu Airlines has opened a base at the airport to coincide with the start of the current autumn holidays and stationed an A320neo at Cologne/Bonn. This aircraft will be used to carry holidaymakers to Fuerteventura, Tenerife and Hurghada.

Several airlines are also extending their previously summer seasonal operations into the winter. Ryanair will maintain former summer-only routes to Kaunas and Bristol this winter. Similarly, Pegasus Airlines will serve four destinations in Türkiye that were previously only maintained during the summer, including Cukurova, Gaziantep, Elazig and Kayseri
