New Route of the Day (28 November 2021): Edelweiss Air between Zurich and Guanacaste
Edelweiss Air has begun a new long-haul service from its home base in Zurich to Guanacaste in Costa Rica on Sunday 28 November. The 9,460-kilometre route will be flown weekly using the airline’s A340-300 fleet. The carrier, the leisure subsidiary of national carrier SWISS, has four of the long-haul aircraft in its fleet. The inaugural service, flown by HB-JMD, operated via San Jose in Costa Rica on the outbound service.
Two other European carriers serve Guanacaste in December according to Cirium Data and Analytics schedules. KLM offers a 3-weekly service using 787-9s, which also operates via San Jose on the outbound sector. After a gap of 20 months, TUI Airways recently resumed its weekly (Wednesday) non-stop service from London LGW using its 787s.
Four new US routes to Guanacaste in November
It has been a busy month for Guanacaste Airport (previously known as Liberia International Airport) with several new services being celebrated including American from Austin (2 November) and Chicago ORD (6 November), Frontier from Orlando (11 November) and Southwest from Denver (13 November). Back in January, United launched routes from Los Angeles and San Francisco, while JetBlue added service from Los Angeles in mid-June.
