New Route of the Day (30 June 2025): Norwegian between London LGW and Billund

Norwegian introduced flights between London LGW and Billund on Monday 30 June. The 800-kilometre service will be maintained 6-weekly, except Saturdays, with a mix of 737-800 and 737 MAX 8 aircraft. The LCC faces no competition between the two cities.
Flight D83535 departs London LGW at 15:35 local time, arriving in Billund at 18:10 local time. The return service, operating as flight D83534, takes off at 19:10 local time, touching back down in the UK at 19:55 local time.
What they said
Sara Neergaard, Director of Communications & Public Affairs at Norwegian Denmark, said: “Norwegian and Billund Airport have had a strong partnership for many years, and we see great potential for growth in this region. With Ryanair’s recent exit, we now have a unique opportunity to strengthen our presence in Billund and Western Denmark. The new route to London Gatwick is just the first step, and we are continuously evaluating opportunities to expand our offerings from Billund.”
Jan Hessellund, CEO of Billund Airport, added: “This is fantastic news – not just for Western Denmark but also for the many British travellers visiting us each year. With Norwegian’s new direct flights, it’s now easier than ever for UK families and business travellers to reach Billund. We value Norwegian’s commitment to strengthening international connectivity to our region.”
Ryanair’s Billund exit leaves room for new carriers
Several airlines have stepped up operations at Billund Airport since Ryanair, once Billund’s largest carrier accounting for 1.2 million passengers annually, discontinued all operations from the city in late March. Apart from Norwegian’s new London LGW service, the carrier has increased frequencies from Billund to Alicante and Malaga. Furthermore, Vueling has returned with flights to Barcelona this summer, and Wizz Air has expanded with new routes, strengthening connections to Central and Eastern Europe.
During the first half of the year, network carriers serving Billund Airport, including Air France, KLM, Lufthansa, Turkish Airlines, British Airways and SAS, have registered a 14% increase in passenger numbers, handling an additional 80,000 traveller year-on-year.
Billund Airport serves a region with a strong mix of leisure and business travellers. The airport’s strategic location in Western Denmark means that the airport’s catchment area is three times the size of its West Danish peers.
