New Route of the Day (4 June 2022): Austrian Airlines between Vienna and Valencia

VIE - VLC

Austrian Airlines on Saturday 4 June launched its first new route of 2022 with the introduction of a non-stop service from Vienna to Valencia in Spain. The 1,670-kilometre route will initially be flown 2-weekly (Tuesdays and Saturdays) using the airline’s A320-series fleet. However, for some parts of the summer season service will increase to 4-weekly, with additional flights on Thursdays and Sundays. Ryanair already connects the two airports with 5-weekly service, increasing to 6-weekly in July, before reducing to 3-weekly from November.

Serving eight airports in Spain this summer

According to Cirium schedule data, Austrian Airlines will be serving eight Spanish airports non-stop from Vienna this summer. The routes are: Palma de Mallorca (served 16-weekly), Barcelona (14), Malaga (six), Ibiza (five), Valencia (four), Gran Canaria (two), Tenerife TFS (two) and Menorca (one).

Valencia routes with Lufthansa Group carriers

Austrian Airlines becomes the latest member of the Lufthansa Group to serve Valencia. Lufthansa itself is serving Frankfurt (18-weekly) and Munich (7-weekly) in August, its in-house LCC Eurowings is serving Düsseldorf (daily), Hamburg (3-weekly) and Stuttgart (4-weekly), SWISS is serving Geneva (2-weekly) and Zurich (21-weekly), while Brussels Airlines is serving Brussels (4-weekly). Add in the new Austrian service and that makes a total of 70 weekly flights to Valencia from Lufthansa Group airlines.

What they said

Miguel Angel Pérez, Brand & Markets Director, Visit València, said “This is the year of Valencia: the World Design and European Smart Tourism Capital. Airlines have understood that this is our moment and are increasing capacity or launching new routes to our destination.”
