New Route of the Day (4 March 2026): easyJet between Birmingham and Rome FCO

easyJet launched flights between Birmingham and Rome FCO on Thursday 5 March. The 1,585-kilometre service will initially be maintained 2-weekly, on Thursdays and Sundays, increasing to 4-weekly in April. The LCC enters a crowded field and will compete against Ryanair’s 4-weekly, Jet2.com’s 5-weekly and Wizz Air’s 3-weekly service between the two cities.
What they said
Kevin Doyle, easyJet’s UK Country Manager, said: “We are delighted to celebrate the launch of our new service from Birmingham to Rome, giving our customers in the Midlands convenient connectivity to Italy’s capital at great value fares. Our continued success in the Midlands is a clear testament to the continued popularity of our flights and holidays and the growth of our fleet with an additional aircraft in Birmingham this summer will further unlock the opportunity of the demand that we see for both leisure and business travel.”
Kristin Garrett, General Counsel of Birmingham Airport, added: “It was great to see the inaugural Rome service leave Birmingham Airport today, adding extra capacity on this Italian route. Whilst today we saw lots of rugby fans flying out for the Six Nations, (and two additional charter flights to support this) the scheduled four times weekly route will undoubtedly be a popular choice for passengers in our region.”
easyJet to expand in Birmingham
This summer easyJet will also welcome a sixth A320-family aircraft to its fleet at Birmingham Airport, enabling the airline to introduce additional new routes. As a result, it will commence flights from Birmingham to Inverness on 30 March and Nice on 1 May.
easyJet was Birmingham’s third-largest carrier in 2025, behind Ryanair and Jet2.com. It had 2,595,684 seats on the market, resulting in a 15.8% share of total capacity.
Birmingham Airport registers busiest year
Birmingham Airport is one of the fastest-growing airports in the UK and welcomed a record 13.6 million passengers in 2025. This upwards trajectory is expected to continue with the publication of the airport’s Master Plan this year, which will outline an ambitious long-term vision for growth and transformation to unlock the airport’s full potential through to 2040.
As part of its Master Plan transformation, Birmingham Airport will invest a record £300 million to improve facilities, including additional baggage make-up facilities, maintenance of taxiways and stands, and the redevelopment of the departure lounge, offering new lounges, food and beverage outlets, and children’s play areas.
