New Route of the Day (4 November 2021): SAS between Stockholm ARN and Kiev KBP

SAS added a new international route from Stockholm ARN on Thursday 4 November, when weekly service to Kiev KBP was introduced. The 1,320-kilometre route will be flown using the Star Alliance carrier’s A320-series aircraft and faces no direct competition. The two airports were previously connected, prior to the pandemic, by Ukraine International Airlines with up to two daily flights and before that by AeroSvit before that airline collapsed in 2013.
This is SAS’s second route to Kiev as it already serves the Ukrainian airport from Oslo, a route it launched in October 2019. Before that it had operated flights from Copenhagen to Boryspil between April 2008 and March 2011. With the
recent signing of the Common Aviation Area Agreement with the EU, traffic between the EU and Ukraine could grow rapidly.
Wizz Air to compete indirectly from mid-December
While SAS is currently the only carrier offering a non-stop service between Sweden and Ukraine, it will be joined in the market from 16 December by Wizz Air, when that carrier launches a 2-weekly service (Thursdays and Sundays) between Kiev IEV and Stockholm NYO.
