New Route of the Day (5 April 2024): Transavia France between Montpellier and Istanbul IST

Transavia France on Friday 5 April inaugurated operations between Montpellier and Istanbul IST, becoming the French airport’s furthermost destination. The 2,045-kilometre service will be maintained 2-weekly, on Mondays and Fridays, with the 737-800 aircraft. Transavia France faces no competition between the two cities.

What they said

Nicolas Henin, Chief Commercial Officer at Transavia France, said: “Istanbul is a premium destination worth a visit in any season. We are delighted to offer this new service to passengers using Montpellier Airport. This new route will expand our already extensive flight offerings to additional countries.”

Transavia France with eleven Türkiye routes

Transavia France continues to expand its operations to Türkiye. During S24, the LCC boasts eleven routes between France and the Eurasian nation. Paris ORY sees the largest volume of those flights, to destinations including Ankara, Antalya, Bodrum, Istanbul IST, and Izmir. Furthermore, it maintains flights from both Lyon and Nantes to Türkiye’s largest city and Antalya, as well as a service between Marseille and Antalya.

Strong summer for Montpellier Airport

Montpellier Airport will diversify its offering this summer with a number of new routes. Apart from Transavia France’s new Istanbul service, the carrier will add new flights to Constantine in Algeria and Rabat in Morocco, further strengthening the airport’s network in North Africa.

Athens International Airport

easyJet recently launched operations to Palma de Mallorca, while another LCC, Norwegian, will inaugurate services to Oslo, restoring connectivity between the two cities after two years following the collapse of Flyr. On the other hand, Volotea will launch its first international service out of Montpellier Airport, with flights to Menorca. Up until now it has exclusively served domestic destinations out of the French airport.

The network growth is being complemented by an increase in frequencies on a select number of routes, including Frankfurt and London LGW, as well as an extended flying season to the likes of Athens, Heraklion, and Oran.

Montpellier eyes new regions beyond 2024

Looking ahead, Montpellier Airport envisions consolidating its domestic French network and enhancing frequencies to regional destinations with Volotea. Southbound, there is a commitment to filling gaps in Portugal, Spain, Italy, and Morocco. Northbound expansion is earmarked for Nordic countries, Germany, and Central Europe.
