New Route of the Day (5 December 2025): Volotea between Genoa and Madrid

Volotea introduced flights between Genoa and Madrid on Friday December 5. The 1,110-kilometre service will be maintained 2-weekly, on Mondays and Fridays, with the A319 and A320 aircraft. The LCC faces no competition between the two cities.
What they said
Valeria Rebasti, International Market Director at Volotea, said: “The new direct flight between Genoa and Madrid is a concrete response to the demand for greater international connectivity to and from Liguria. With two weekly flights, this new route simplifies travel between two cities rich in cultural and tourist attractions, offering new opportunities for both leisure and business travellers. We are truly proud to also announce strong growth in Genoa in 2026, with nearly 1,000 flights and over 162,000 seats on sale.”
Francesco D’Amico, General Manager of Genoa Airport, added: “With the return of this destination, we are adding another European capital to the list of destinations served, now 23, and a new route into the Spanish market, one of the most popular with Ligurian travellers. Furthermore, the strengthening of the relationship with Volotea, a carrier historically present in Genoa that has resumed investing in our city, significantly increasing its offering, represents a sign of confidence in the potential of our airport, which, as is well known, is pursuing a major renewal plan both in terms of ground infrastructure and in terms of national and international connections.”
Volotea now serves four cities from Genoa
With the launch of the new route to Madrid, Volotea’s network of destinations from Genoa Airport now totals four. These include two in Italy (Naples and Olbia) and one in France (Paris ORY), complementing the newly launched Madrid.
In 2026, Volotea forecasts over 162,000 seats for sale in Genoa, a 44% increase compared to 2025 and nearly 1,000 flights, up from the 648 operated this year.
During the first three quarters of the year, Genoa Airport handled 1,218,780 passengers, a 17.8% increase over the same period in 2024. It is close to breaking its pre-pandemic record of 1.5 million travellers.
