New Route of the Day (5 November 2024): Eurowings between Cologne/Bonn and Jeddah

Eurowings inaugurated flights between Cologne/Bonn and Jeddah on Tuesday 5 November. The 4,270-kilometre journey will be operated 3-weekly on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Saturdays, with the A320neo aircraft. The airline faces no competition between the two cities. The new route, which marks the first direct connection from North Rhine-Westphalia to Saudi Arabia, complements the launch of flights between Berlin and Jeddah on the same day.
What they said
Jens Bischof, CEO of Eurowings, sad: ““Our new Airbus A320neo are not only the most efficient and quietest medium-haul jets in the world. They also allow us to achieve significantly higher ranges, which will enable us to reach attractive destinations in the Gulf region non-stop from Germany. We are all the more pleased that we are connecting Eurowings’ home airport directly with Saudi Arabia’s most important port city on the Red Sea for the first time.”
Thilo Schmid, CEO of Cologne/Bonn Airport, added: “For our location, the economy in the region and in particular, for our passengers, the new connection to Saudi Arabia means a further development of the great diversity of our network.”
Eurowings adds Saudi Arabia under connectivity program
Eurowings’ new services to Saudi Arabia were made possible after the carrier inked an agreement with the Kingdom’s authorities to join the country’s Air Connectivity Program (ACP).
ACP secures airlines connections with partners and authorities, providing market entry, route sustainability and co-marketing support. This recipe has proven successful so far. A number of carriers have launched flights to Saudi Arabia under the guise of the ACP, including British Airways, ITA Airways, LOT Polish Airlines, China Southern Airlines, China Eastern Airlines, Hainan Airlines and Wizz Air to name a few. The program has also proved useful for Saudi carriers.
The new Jeddah flights mark the airline’s expansion into the North Africa and Middle East (MENA) region, as this winter season it also introduced 2-weekly flights between Dusseldorf and Cairo, as well as 3-weekly from both Cologne/Bonn and Stuttgart to Dubai DWC.
