New Route of the Day (7 April 2023): Volotea’s new routes from Florence
Volotea opened its seventh base in Italy and seventeenth in Europe on Friday 7 April by introducing the first two of five new routes from Florence.
- 6 April: Bari (2-weekly)
- 6 April: Palermo (2-weekly)
- 13 April: Nantes (2-weekly)
- 26 May: Olbia (5-weekly)
- 10 October: Hamburg (2-weekly)
The LCC will compete directly against Vueling’s 3-weekly Palermo service. From 13 June, Volotea will also go head-to-head on the Bari route against Vueling, as the latter commences 3-weekly operations between the two airports. Volotea has allocated one A319 aircraft for its new Florence base.
What they said
Valeria Rebasti, Country Manager Italy & Southeastern Europe at Volotea, said: “We are happy to inaugurate our seventh Italian base in Florence, a city that plays a strategic role in our international development plans. Thanks to this important investment, we will further strengthen connectivity at the local level, offering our passengers the possibility of flying even more easily and at more convenient times to an ever-growing number of destinations. To support the local economy, numerous job positions between pilots and crew take shape in Florence, without forgetting the economic repercussions generated by the new tourist flows in transit from the airport. We would like to thank all the local authorities who have accompanied us on this path of constant growth, together with the management of Toscana Aeroporti. Of course, the biggest thanks go to the passengers who have already chosen to fly with our fleet to and from Florence.”
Roberto Naldi, CEO at Toscana Aeroporti, added: “The opening of a base in Florence confirms the increasingly close partnership between Volotea and Toscana Aeroporti. A bond born several years ago, first with the opening in Florence, then with the opening in Pisa and today with a base. We can only be satisfied with the relationship of trust and collaboration that we have established, built on the basis of a common awareness of the centrality of Tuscany at a European level and of the development possibilities that our territory offers.”
Volotea to serve twelve destinations from Florence
Volotea will maintain a total of twelve routes from its new Florence base. These include five each in Italy and France, and one each in Germany and Spain. Of those, the LCC faces no competition on eight routes. In total, Volotea plans to operate some 2,100 Florence flights during S23, offering 324,000 seats for sale.
Italy is now Volotea’s second largest market after France. However, its leading country-pair markets are Italy-Italy, that is Italian domestic destinations.
