New Route of the Day (7 May 2025): Eurowings between Cologne/Bonn and Erbil

Eurowings commenced a new service between Cologne/Bonn and Erbil in Iraq on Wednesday 7 May. The 3,345-kilometre journey will be maintained weekly with the A320 aircraft, competing against Iraq’s UR Airlines’ 2-weekly rotations.
The introduction of flights to Erbil completes Eurowings’ summer expansion from Cologne/Bonn, which has seen the LCC add flights from the German city to Bastia, Porto and Klagenfurt.
Flight EW950 departs Cologne/Bonn at 07:10 local time, arriving in Erbil at 12:45 local time. The return service, operating as flight EW951, takes off from the Iraqi city at 13:45 local time, touching back down in Germany at 17:50 local time.
What they said
Thilo Schmid, Chairman of the Management Board of Cologne/Bonn Airport, said: “The addition of these new routes to this summer schedule impressively demonstrates how strong and dynamic our close partnership with Eurowings continues to be. We are delighted that the expanded route network offers our passengers an even wider choice of attractive destinations – whether for summer holidays, family visits or city breaks.”
Eurowings strengthens Erbil presence
Erbil, in northern Iraq, is the capital of the country’s Kurdistan Region. Its airport is the second busiest in Iraq after Baghdad and is served by several European carriers. Over the past year, Eurowings has been strengthening its presence in the city and now maintains flights from six German airports to Erbil. Apart from Cologne/Bonn, these include Berlin, Dusseldorf, Hamburg, Hannover and Stuttgart.
Eurowings now maintains 13-weekly flights from Germany to Erbil. It provides 2,432 seats per week from its home country to the Iraqi city. The service from Dusseldorf is most frequent, with 4-weekly rotations.
Other European carriers serving Erbil include Aegean Airlines, Austrian Airlines, AJet, Pegasus Airlines, SunExpress and Turkish Airlines. Erbil Airport is home to local carrier FlyErbil, which maintains operations to a number of European airports, primarily in Germany, but also the Netherlands, Türkiye and the UK.
