New Route of the Day (8 March 2025): Wizz Air between Venice and Budapest

Wizz Air inaugurated flights between Venice and Budapest on Saturday 8 March. The 575-kilometre service will initially be maintained 2-weekly, on Tuesdays and Saturdays, before increasing to 3-weekly from 3 April, with an additional rotation on Thursdays. The LCC faces no competition on the route, which will be operated with the 239-seat A321neo aircraft.
Flight W46709 departs Venice at 06:10 local time, arriving in Budapest at 07:25. The return service, operating as W46710, departs the Hungarian capital at 08:00 local time, touching back down at Marco Polo Airport at 09:20.
What they said
Mauro Peneda, Managing Director at Wizz Air Malta, said: “The new summer routes from Venice represent an extraordinary addition to our already vast network from the city and respond to the growing demand for direct, convenient travel that is perfect for holidays or city breaks.”
Wizz Air adds five new Venice routes
Wizz Air is progressively introducing five new destinations from Venice. In addition to Budapest, they include a daily service to Madrid and Barcelona, as well as 3-weekly to Athens and Sharm El Sheikh. The expansion has been made possible with the addition of an A321neo aircraft to its Venice base, increasing the total number of Wizz Air aircraft stationed at Marco Polo Airport to two.
The LCC will boast over 500,000 seats as part of its Venice network this year, representing growth of almost 80% over 2024. With this expansion, Wizz Air will reach a 10% market share in Venice, consolidating its position as the airport’s second-largest low-cost carrier.
Wizz Air has 200 routes from Italy
Wizz Air’s network in Italy currently counts 200 routes from 25 airports. The LCC maintains flights from Italy to 80 destinations in 35 countries from its five operating bases in Rome FCO, Milan MXP, Venice, Naples and Catania. Since launching its first route to Italy, between Katowice and Milan, in 2004, the airline has carried over 90 million passengers on its Italy operations.
