New Route of the Day (9 May 2026): Eurowings between Berlin and Sarajevo

Eurowings introduced seasonal flights between Berlin and Sarajevo on Saturday 9 May. The 1,015-kilometre route will initially be maintained weekly with the A320 aircraft, increasing to 2-weekly during July and August. The carrier, which is resuming service on the route after over six years, faces no competition.
Flight EW8492 departs Berlin at 06:10 local time, arriving in Sarajevo at 08:05. The return service, operating as flight EW8493, takes off at 08:50 local time, touching back down in the German capital at 10:55.
What they said
Dino Selimovic, Acting CEO of Sarajevo Airport, said: “The introduction of direct flights from Berlin confirms that investments in air connectivity are delivering tangible results, with the German market holding particular importance due to strong tourist interest as well as the close ties between the diaspora and Bosnia and Herzegovina. Each new air service contributes to increased tourist arrivals, stronger economic activity, and the improved positioning of Sarajevo as an attractive European destination, with continued institutional support pledged for the expansion of the route network. The direct link between Berlin and Sarajevo is also of strategic importance for strengthening overall relations between the two countries, while making direct travel easier and helping boost the number of German visitors to Bosnia and Herzegovina.”
Four Lufthansa Group carriers serve Sarajevo
Eurowings’ new Berlin service complements it existing year-round flights from Cologne and Stuttgart. The LCC maintained operations between the two capitals in 2013 and 2014, as Germanwings, and again in 2019, with services ending in January 2020. The route was set to resume in March that year, but the relaunch was cancelled due to the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic.
Four Lufthansa Group airlines serve Sarajevo, with Lufthansa operating from Frankfurt, Austrian Airlines from Vienna and SWISS from Zurich. Together, the four carriers will maintain 46-weekly flights from Bosnia and Herzegovina’s capital during the height of the summer season, offering 7,294 seats on the market each week in each direction.
