New Route of the Day – Americas (1 December 2025): Delta Air Lines between Atlanta and Accra

Delta Air Lines continued expanding its portfolio of international flights by introducing a seasonal service between Atlanta and Accra in Ghana on Monday 1 December. The 9,140-kilometre route will be maintained daily with the 281-seat A330-900 aircraft. The carrier faces no competition between the two cities.
Flight DL178 departs Atlanta at 17:55 local time, arriving in Accra at 09:25 local time the following morning. The return service, operating as flight DL179, takes off at 11:35 local time, touching back down in the US at 19:25 local time.
The route will be operational for six weeks until 16 January.
What they said
Yvonne Nana Afriyie Opare, Managing Director of operator Ghana Airports Company Limited, said: “Ghana Airports Company Limited welcomes the expansion of Delta’s operations with this new Accra – Atlanta service. As passenger demand continues to grow, partnerships like this reinforce KIA’s role as a premier regional hub. We are proud to collaborate with Delta in delivering a seamless, world-class experience for travellers and advancing Ghana’s prominence in global aviation.”
Rolf Olson, Chargé d’Affaires at the US Embassy in Accra, added: “The launch of Delta’s expanded Accra – Atlanta service symbolises the strengthening partnership between Ghana and the United States. More than a convenient connection, this route opens doors for economic growth, cultural exchange, and collaboration, providing new pathways for people to engage across continents.”
Delta resumes route after more than a decade
The Atlanta – Accra service was last maintained 13 years ago. It complements the SkyTeam member’s year-round service between New York JFK and the Ghanaian capital.
During the height of the 2025/26 winter season, Delta Air Lines will have a record eight routes to Africa, resulting in 50-weekly departures. It serves Accra, Cape Town, Johannesburg, Lagos and Marrakech from Atlanta. On the other hand, it will maintain services to Dakar, alongside Accra, from New York JFK. Delta offers more flights between the US and Africa than any other airline.
