New Route of the Day – Americas (1 October 2021): Denver Air Connection from Ironwood
Ironwood in northern Michigan lies on the Montreal River just 30 kilometres south of Lake Superior and across the river from Hurley in Wisconsin. It is located in Gogebic County in the Upper Peninsula of the state. Originally a mining town, it is now close to several popular ski resorts. Until the end of September, Gogebic Iron County Airport (IATA code IWD) serving Ironwood, was served by Boutique Air. However, on 1 October the routes from Ironwood to Chicago ORD and Minneapolis/St. Paul were taken over by Denver Air Connection (IATA code KG). The carrier operates a fleet of seven aircraft according to planespotters.net; three 50-seat Embraer ERJ-145s, three 30-seat Dornier Do-328JETs and an Embraer EMB-120 Brasilia.
The 540-kilometre route to Chicago will be served by the ERJ-145s while the 300-kilometre route to Minneapolis/St. Paul will be operated using the Dornier fleet. Both routes will be served daily excluding Saturdays. Denver Air Connection, which has an interline agreement with United Airlines, is a subsidiary of Key Lime Air which is based in Englewood, Colorado. The airline has been gradually expanding its network and will soon be operating scheduled services from 12 US airports.
