New Route of the Day – Americas (10 January 2026): Breeze between Norfolk and Cancun

ORF-CUN

Breeze introduced its first international service on Saturday 10 January by launching flights between Norfolk and Cancun. The 2,040-kilometre route will initially be maintained weekly with the A220-300 aircraft, increasing to 2-weekly from May. The carrier faces no competition on the route.

Flight MX422 departs Norfolk at 12:20 local time, arriving in Cancun at 16:00. The return service, operating as flight MX423, takes off at 17:00 local time, touching back down at the Virginia airport at 20:20.

What they said

David Neeleman, Founder and CEO of Breeze, said: “Becoming a US flag carrier is a huge milestone for Breeze, and one that our team members have been working tirelessly on for the last three years. We’re excited to bring the same convenience and elevated experience they love about our domestic flights to this exciting new international destination.”

Chris Jones, Spokesperson at Norfolk Airport, added: “Cancun has long been the top destination for outbound travellers from the Hampton Roads region but, until now, locals were forced to navigate connecting flights through major hubs. Breeze is also our fastest-growing airline. It has 20 destinations coming out of ORF for an airline that wasn’t even here four years ago. Pairing up a fast-growing airline with a very popular destination is going to be the perfect way to kick open this international service at the airport.”

Norfolk Airport restores international flights

The launch of Breeze’s new Cancun service has resulted in Norfolk restoring international connectivity for the first time since 2001. The return of international flights coincides with the airport’s transformation initiative, named “$1 Billion Transform ORF”, which involves a large-scale modernisation project.

Later this month, the airport is expected to open a new US Customs and Border Protection Federal Inspection Services facility.

Breeze to expand international operations

Breeze has become the first US airline in more than ten years to undergo a rigorous FAA certification process in order to become a flag carrier, enabling it to launch international flights.

Apart from the new Norfolk service, Breeze is adding flights to Cancun from Charleston (17 January), New Orleans (7 February) and Providence (14 February). Furthermore, it will commence flights to Punta Cana from Raleigh-Durham (4 March), as well as to Montego Bay from Tampa (11 February) and Raleigh-Durham (5 March).

By the end of Q1, Breeze will operate 8-weekly international flights from the US.
