New Route of the Day – Americas (14 June 2025): WestJet between Vancouver and Tampa

Canada’s WestJet introduced seasonal services between Vancouver and Tampa on Saturday 14 June. The 4,180-kilometre route will be maintained weekly with the 737 fleet. The carrier will compete against Air Canada’s 2-weekly rotations between the two cities.
This summer marks the first time Tampa has been linked to Vancouver to help accommodate demand for flights to the Pacific Northwest during the peak Alaskan cruise season.
Flight WS1284 departs Vancouver at 09:20 local time, touching down in Tampa at 17:43. The return service, operating as WS1285, takes off from the Florida airport at 18:40 local time, touching back down in Canada at 21:54 local time.
What they said
Joe Lopano, CEO of Tampa Airport said, “We’re thrilled to support WestJet’s continued growth at TPA. Our strong partnership with WestJet helps connect the Tampa Bay area to appealing international destinations, this time to one of Canada’s largest metropolitan areas, which we know will be popular with both business and leisure travellers.”
Tampa with an average 512-daily flights this summer
After its busiest spring break on record, Tampa Airport is estimated to register six million passengers during the busy summer travel months between late May and mid-August when local students return to school. Tampa will average 512-daily flights over the summer with approximately 72,000 passengers daily.
This year sees a record number of available international flights and seats from Tampa. It will be the airport’s biggest summer for European travel, with a 16% jump in available seats with the return of 4-weekly flights to Amsterdam on Delta and expanded 5-weekly service to Zurich on Edelweiss. Discover Airlines has also continued to offer daily service to Frankfurt, with British Airways and Virgin Atlantic both offering daily service to London (LGW and LHR).
Both 1 June and 13 July are forecast to be two of the busiest travel days for Tampa over the summer, with approximately 81,000 passengers per day.
