New Route of the Day – Americas (14 May 2025): TAP Air Portugal between Porto and Boston

TAP Air Portugal added a new transatlantic service to its network by inaugurating flights between Porto and Boston on Wednesday 14 May. The 5,060-kilometre service will be maintained 4-weekly, on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays, with the 168-seat A321LR aircraft. The carrier faces no competition between the two cities.
What they said
Luís Rodrigues, President of TAP, said: “TAP contributes to bringing Porto closer to the rest of the world, favouring the mobility of residents and communities, while capturing and attracting important North American and Brazilian tourist flows to Porto and Northern Portugal, relevant to the region’s economy. In addition, the TAP Group employs 368 workers at its base in Porto, also indirectly generating hundreds of jobs related to aviation, our suppliers and service providers and the tourism sector.”
Thierry Liggoniere, CEO of Porto operator ANA Airports, added: “This inaugural flight to Boston is a milestone that we are very proud of, the result of continuous and collaborative work with TAP Air Portugal as strategic partners. We congratulate TAP for this commitment to Porto, which not only reinforces our connection to the North American market and the Portuguese diaspora but also confirms the role of Porto Airport as a strategic platform for the development of new international routes, with a focus on quality of service and sustainability.”
TAP Air Portugal adds fifth long-haul Porto service
TAP will now fly from Porto to two cities in the US, Boston and New York EWR, as well as from Lisbon to seven North American airports. These include Boston, Chicago ORD, Miami, New York JFK, New York EWR, San Francisco and Washington IAD. On 16 May, TAP will commence operations between Lisbon and Los Angeles, while from 3 June, one of TAP’s weekly flights between Lisbon and San Francisco will make a stopover on Terceira in the Azores.
TAP currently serves Porto Airport with 17 long-haul flights per week. Apart from the newly added Boston and New York EWR, they include Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paulo and Luanda. In addition, the airline offers 127-weekly short-haul flights from Porto, including services within Portugal, but also other destinations such as Paris CDG, London LGW, Geneva, Zurich and Luxembourg.
