New Route of the Day – Americas (16 June 2024): LATAM between Santiago and Orlando MCO

LATAM inaugurated operations between its hub in Chile’s capital of Santiago and Orlando MCO on Sunday 16 June. The 6,930-kilometre route will be maintained 2-weekly, on Thursdays and Sundays, switching to Thursdays and Saturdays as of next month. The service will run until September, after which flights will resume from December. A 787-8 Dreamliner aircraft will be deployed between the two cities. There is no other competitor on the route.

Flight LA636 departs Santiago at 11:00 local time, arriving at Orlando MCO at 20:15 local time. The return service, operating as flight LA635, takes off from the Florida airport at 22:25 local time, touching back down in the Chilean capital at 07:00 local time the following morning.

Juan Jose Toha, Director of Corporate Affairs and Sustainability at LATAM, said: “This route is part of our efforts to improve connectivity with the United States, which brings both social and economic benefits. So far, we see that there is a lot of demand and interest.”

Bernadette M. Meehan, the Ambassador of the US to Chile, added: “With 200 years of US – Chile relations, this direct flight underscores the importance of our relationship. You’ll also fly in a Dreamliner, which I believe is the most comfortable plane you can fly.”

Eighth route as part of LATAM – Delta Joint Venture

LATAM and Delta launched a comprehensive Joint Venture in October 2022, which has so far delivered eight new routes, as well as an increase in frequencies on flights between South America and the US operated by the two airlines.

The new services which have been introduced in addition to Santiago – Orlando MCO include

Overall, LATAM now maintains 18 routes from South America to the US, with the most capacity between Sao Paolo GRU and Miami, followed by services from both Lima and Santiago to Miami. LATAM has increased its overall capacity to the US by 32% this summer when compared to last year while the number of flights has grown almost 41%.
