And, of course, all our routes include our popular Portugal Stopover program where you can enjoy up to 10 days in Portugal enroute to any of our destinations in Europe, or on the way home, for no additional airfare.”

Doug Webster, Chief Operations and Maintenance Officer at Los Angeles World Airports, added: “TAP Air Portugal’s new nonstop connection between Los Angeles and Lisbon represents an important milestone in our continued efforts to expand route service offerings at LAX.  For the first time ever, business and leisure travellers will have convenient access to both cities, providing strengthened economic and cultural ties between our regions.”

TAP Air Portugal with largest US network to date

Los Angeles becomes TAP’s eighth US gateway, joining New York JFK, New York EWR, Boston, Miami, Washington IAD, San Francisco and Chicago ORD.  TAP also flies to Toronto YYZ and Montreal in Canada, as well as Cancun in Mexico.

The new service marks the first time Lisbon has been linked to Los Angeles with a nonstop scheduled service. It is one of three new routes to be introduced by TAP to the US this summer. The carrier recently inaugurated operations between Lisbon and Boston, while from 3 June, one of TAP’s weekly flights between Lisbon and San Francisco will make a stopover in Terceira, enabling the airline to offer a new service between the Azores and California, in order to serve the large Azorean community.

North America is the fastest growing in TAP’s network

Last year, TAP carried a record 1.59 million passengers between Portugal and North America, up 8.9% year-over-year. It made up approximately 10% of TAP’s global total of 16.1 million passengers in 2024, up 1.6% from 2023.

The North American routes are the airline’s fastest growing. Last year was the first time the airline carried more than 1.5 million passengers on its US. and Canadian routes, reflecting the largest percentage increase of passengers carried globally.
